On a land entirely covered in glass and concrete, humans indulge in gobbledygook, amidst industrial food, light screens and rubbish. A plastic bag dispersed in the sea causes the death of an over-confident manta ray. The clan of her sisters, after having mourned her, is preparing to launch a portentous attack against mankind, to take control of the earth: it is the dawn of a new era, a flat era, or rather a “flatastic” era. An apocalyptic song of overwhelming visual power, animated in a mixture of traditional and digital drawing.
Alice Saey is a Franco-Scottish graphic artist and animator, based between Rotterdam and Paris. She graduated in Graphic Design at HEAR in Strasbourg; she has animated music videos and produced work for Arte, Centre Pompidou and Socialter, among others. Flatastic is her professional short film debut.
