Following Sirens, winner of the Jury Prize at the 23rd Euganea Film Festival, Ilaria Di Carlo returns to the landscapes of the Anthropocene. Polyphem is the second chapter in a series of short films that reinterpret the stages of Homer's Odyssey through a rigorous formal inquiry. Shot entirely from a helicopter, the film dispenses with verbal explanation: its images unfold like a moving painting, inviting the viewer to contemplate the unsettling allure of the industrial landscape. Vast expanses of bauxite tailings, with their intense and unnatural red hue, evoke an open wound on the Earth's surface, revealing the trauma and profound ecological violence inflicted by human intervention on the natural world.
