Far from human settlements, high in the mountains, a group of forest spirits live together according to their own rules. One day, during a moment of playful transgression, they come across a village inhabited by a farming community. One of the spirits, taking a female form, steals a human dress and puts it on: this gesture triggers an irreversible transformation in her relationship with her own identity. Through a simple yet evocative animation style, Stolen Dress engages with the imagery of pagan cultures, populated by free spirits and hybrid figures suspended between human and animal forms. Alexandra Zimina and Alina Shchedrina explore the loss of innocence and the dissolution of a world in which natural impulses coexist with violence, beyond the boundaries imposed by the morality of human society.
Alexandra Zimina and Alina Shchedrina graduated in animation from the Ural State University of Architecture and Arts in 2022. Stolen Dress is their first film.
