Eighty years after the Liberation, Alpinismo e Resistenza explores the connection between mountaineering and the italian partisan struggle during World War II. The book gathers the stories of sixteen extraordinary figures, from Primo Levi to Cesare Maestri, from Riccardo Cassin to Luigi Meneghello, who transformed their passion for the peaks into a resource for the liberation fight. Their mountaineering skills became strategic assets, making the mountains not only a refuge but also a laboratory of the Italian Resistance.

Sergio Giuntini lives in Milan. President of the Italian Society for the History of Sport (SISS), he is the author of several works on sports history. His recent publications include Biciclette partigiane (Bolis Edizioni, 2022); Lo sport imbroglione (Ediciclo, 2022); Storia dello sport ebraico in Italia e in Europa (Aracne, 2023); together with Erminio Fonzo Senza ostacoli. Storia dello sport paralimpico in Italia (Lab DFG, 2024).
