To feel the sweetness of a leaf, the poetry of a blade of grass, the lightness of a glance, the beauty in other forms of life and breath.

In the city's green heart, we come together for an experience of interconnection, slow walking, and encounter with Nature. Through gentle practices inspired by Deep Ecology and Ecosomatics, participants will explore small opportunities to observe and connect with their surroundings, the environment, and themselves.

The journey will guide participants through the Giardini Park, including brief moments of discovering the different tree species found there.

Suitable for all ages. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Profonda superficie

The current castle of Este was built in the years 1339-1340, on the initiative of the Lord of Padua Ubertino da Carrara. With a wall perimeter about 1000 m long, defended by 14 towers (now reduced to 12) and lying on the slopes of Mount Murale, this fortress has actually replaced the first castle, that of the Marquis of Este, built on the hill area since the eleventh century and seriously damaged by the wars of '200 and '300. In the fourteenth century, after having incorporated the flat area to the south and east of the original nucleus, the castle of Carrara housed in its interior troop quarters, armories, stables, perhaps even homes, remaining separated from the village of Este through the channel Sirone that ran along the current Via G. Negri. The castle, with its two "maistre" towers, the one at the top and the one at the Porta del Soccorso (which opens towards Baone), remained intact for over two centuries, until it was purchased by the powerful Venetian Mocenigo family in the second half of the 16th century. The inland area, instead, now devoid of any military use, already after the Venetian conquest at the beginning of the 15th century began to undergo changes in use, with the planting of orchards, the cultivation of part of the land and even the construction of small houses to house the "fittavoli". Between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, under the ownership of the Mocenigo family, a vast garden was created, extending as far as the foothills on either side of a scenic staircase. The sculptures still visible today on the southern side of the castle date back to this period. A devastating fire in 1785 caused the destruction of the east wing of the Venetian palace; in the first half of the 19th century the whole complex was bought by the Trieste family, and then passed to the Da Zara brothers, who in 1887 sold it to the Municipality. Once it became public property, the monument changed its use again: the surviving wing of Palazzo Mocenigo was chosen as the prestigious seat of the city's archaeological museum (which later became the national museum), while the north-eastern area of the Carrarese castle was used as the Foro Boario, i.e. the place for the cattle market. The eighteenth-century park underwent a radical transformation in the years 1914-15, when it was decided to resitemare the green area, already used as a public garden. The works involved the demolition of the steep Venetian staircase and the creation of sloping terraces. This is how the Italian gardens as we know them today take shape, with orderly avenues and geometric flowerbeds, which preserve several centuries-old plants. The most noteworthy are the monumental wisteria (which overlooks the secondary door on the south side of the walls) and some specimens of cedars of Lebanon and the Himalayas.&nbsp;

*Al fiume!* (To the River!) is a collective writing workshop led by **Marco Gnaccolini** and **Raffaele Pizzatti Sertorelli** for **Atlante delle Rive**, aimed at participants aged 18 to 39. It is produced by **Jolefilm** in collaboration with the Euganea Film Festival and promoted by **acquevenete**.

This collaborative writing workshop combines storytelling, ecology, and role-playing to explore the relationship between humans and the environment through the lens of water management. Participants will collectively construct the story of a river—from its source to its mouth—traversing landscapes, transformations, and conflicts.

The workshop is conceived as a shared writing experience that blends storytelling, ecology, and role-playing. It stems from the idea of ​​creating a collaborative experience where writing becomes a means to observe, imagine, and discuss water management—and, more broadly, the human-environment relationship—through collective narrative practice. Participants are invited to build a river's story together, following its journey from source to end while navigating landscapes, transformations, and conflicts.

The starting point is a compelling concept: the river is not merely a natural feature but a living system shaped by forces, decisions, and collective imaginings. It is an ecosystem of stories, serving as a tool to examine the territory and its dynamics. In this sense, the project draws loose inspiration from the perspective of the anarchist geographer Élisée Reclus and his work *The Story of a Stream* (*Histoire d'un ruisseau*); here, the watercourse becomes a narrative of the landscape and its relationships, capable of symbolically encapsulating human social and political concerns. **WORKSHOP DATES**

_Al fiume!_ è un progetto di **Jolefilm**, per **Atlante delle Rive**, realizzato in collaborazione con Euganea Film Festival e promosso da **acquevenete**.

Un laboratorio di scrittura condivisa che unisce narrazione, ecologia e gioco di ruolo per esplorare il rapporto tra esseri umani e ambiente attraverso la gestione delle acque. I partecipanti costruiranno insieme la storia di un fiume, dalla nascita alla foce, attraversando paesaggi, trasformazioni e conflitti. 

Il laboratorio è concepito come un’esperienza di scrittura condivisa che unisce narrazione, ecologia e “gioco di ruolo”. Nasce dall’idea di creare un’esperienza condivisa in cui la scrittura diventa un modo per osservare, immaginare e discutere la gestione delle acque - e, più in generale, il rapporto tra esseri umani e ambiente - attraverso una pratica narrativa collettiva. I/le partecipanti sono chiamati e chiamate a costruire insieme la storia di un fiume, seguendolo dalla sua nascita fino alla sua fine, attraversando paesaggi, trasformazioni e conflitti. 

Il punto di partenza è una suggestione: il fiume non è solo un elemento naturale, ma un sistema vivo, attraversato da forze, decisioni e immaginari; è un ecosistema di storie, in cui il fiume diventa uno strumento per interrogare il territorio e le sue dinamiche. In questo senso, il progetto si ispira liberamente allo sguardo del geografo anarchico Élisée Reclus nel suo Storia di un ruscello, dove il corso d’acqua diventa racconto del territorio e delle sue relazioni, che può racchiudere simbolicamente istanze sociali e politiche degli esseri umani.

Book presentation of *_Salire per sopravvivere. Gli ecosistemi montani alla prova della crisi climatica_* (People, 2026) with author **Chiara Bettega**. Moderated by Marco Milan.

Mountains are reservoirs of biodiversity that are fundamental to the functioning of the planet's ecosystems. However, climate change and shifts in how we inhabit and traverse mountain environments are profoundly altering the living conditions of the species that populate them. Their most evident response is a vertical migration—that act of "climbing to survive" which, for some life forms, represents an opportunity, while for others, it spells doom.

In this new volume from People’s *L’Altramontagna* series, Chiara Bettega proposes a journey that is, by necessity, an uphill climb: from mixed mid-mountain woodlands to coniferous forests, from alpine meadows to rocky terrain, and up to the nival zone of glaciers and the summit itself. It is a journey into the complexity of mountain ecosystems, along that "escalator to extinction" where some species risk vanishing, while others find a chance for resilience in the mountains' richness and diversity.

**Chiara Bettega** is an ornithologist and a collaborator with MUSE (the Science Museum of Trento). A Natural Sciences graduate, she has worked in England and Spain, focusing on nocturnal birds of prey and high-altitude birds.

Le montagne sono serbatoi di biodiversità fondamentali per il funzionamento degli ecosistemi del pianeta. Ma il cambiamento climatico e le trasformazioni del nostro modo di abitare e attraversare gli ambienti montani stanno modificando profondamente le condizioni di vita delle specie che li popolano. La loro risposta più evidente è una migrazione verticale, quel “salire per sopravvivere” che per alcune forme di vita può rappresentare una possibilità, per altre una condanna.

Nel nuovo volume della collana L’_Altramontagna_ di People, Chiara Bettega propone un percorso necessariamente in salita: dai boschi misti di media montagna alle foreste di conifere, dalle praterie alpine agli ambienti rocciosi, fino alla fascia nivale dei ghiacciai e alla cima. Un viaggio dentro la complessità degli ecosistemi montani, lungo quella “scala mobile per l’estinzione” in cui alcune specie rischiano di scomparire, mentre altre trovano nella ricchezza e nella varietà della montagna una possibilità di resistenza.

**Chiara Bettega** è ricercatrice ornitologa e collaboratrice del MUSE, Museo delle Scienze di Trento. Laureata in Scienze Naturali, ha lavorato in Inghilterra e Spagna, occupandosi di rapaci notturni e uccelli d’alta quota.

Salire per sopravvivere

The Teatro dei Filodrammatici was inaugurated in 1978 but was built on the ruins of the former Oratory of the Holy Spirit, probably built at the end of 1600. The hall is run with regular prose seasons from autumn to spring. Numerous companies have been guests there; an almost complete showcase of the amateur (and sometimes professional) activity of the Triveneto, with a very wide repertoire, that privileges above all the Veneto theater. Parallel to the show business, the Calle della Musica theater performs other complementary functions: it hosts, for example, concerts, screenings, conferences, book presentations and other social and cultural initiatives. In one of the most characteristic locations in the center, with its intimate and welcoming appearance (also following a recent restoration), we can well say that the Teatro dei Filodrammatici has taken on the role of the city's "public lounge".

An evening of stargazing using optical and digital instruments, featuring celestial orientation and commentary by Marco Bregolato and Luca Nobili from the Padua Planetarium. Stargazing will take place from 9:30 PM to midnight.

During the session, the issues of light pollution and artificial satellite interference will be explained.

**Astronomy-themed poetry reading by Luca Tironi**

A journey to (re)discover the universe—a place as fascinating as it is unknown. We will seek answers to existential questions while navigating among planets with almost human personalities, stars of every conceivable color, and black holes capable of defying the laws of physics.

**Luca Tironi** will act as a tour guide through the cosmos; the stops along the way will not be mere stories, but genuine pieces of performance poetry.
The show is suitable for everyone: adults and children, experts and the curious alike. The only prerequisite is imagination.

Luca Tironi is a founding member of the Padua-based poetry collective *Rimescolate* and has been bringing Poetry Slam to audiences everywhere since 2018. He serves as the Veneto regional vice-coordinator for the *Lega Italiana Poetry Slam* (LIPS); he was a regional finalist in Veneto in 2018 and 2019 and served as the MC for the 2019 LIPS National Championships in Ragusa.

**Reading di poesia a tema astronomico di Luca Tironi**

Un viaggio alla (ri)scoperta di quel luogo tanto affascinante quanto sconosciuto che è l’universo. Si andrà in cerca di risposte a quesiti esistenziali navigando tra pianeti dal carattere quasi umano, stelle dai colori più disparati e buchi neri in grado di infrangere ogni legge fisica.

**Luca Tironi** farà da guida turistica all’interno del cosmo e le tappe del percorso non saranno semplici racconti, ma veri e propri pezzi di poesia performativa.
Lo spettacolo è adatto a tutti: grandi e piccoli, esperti e curiosi. L’unica competenza richiesta è la fantasia.

Luca Tironi è membro fondatore del collettivo poetico padovano _Rimescolate_, dal 2018 porta il Poetry Slam ovunque venga accolto. È vicecoordinatore veneto per la _Lega Italiana Poetry Slam_ (LIPS), è stato finalista regionale veneto nel 2018 e nel 2019 ed è stato mc ai campionati nazionali LIPS 2019 di Ragusa.

Presentation of the book *_Questo è quanto. La fisica quantistica in cinque idee_* (Laterza, 2025) with author **Piero Martin**. Moderated by Marco Milan.

Quantum physics represents arguably the most profound revolution in modern science and thought. Born of an extraordinary collective effort, it has challenged certainties that underpinned Western culture for centuries, transforming our understanding of matter, observation, and reality. Through five fundamental concepts—discontinuity, identity, the future, indeterminacy, and relationship—the book guides readers to the heart of the quantum revolution. It reveals how a seemingly abstract theory is actually deeply connected to our daily lives and the technologies that shape our present, from lasers and medicine to solar cells and computing. It is an invitation to be amazed by the wondrous complexity of nature and by a form of knowledge capable of embracing the multiplicity of reality.

**Piero Martin** is an experimental physicist and a professor at the University of Padua. Alongside his research, he is dedicated to science communication, sharing his work on radio and television, at numerous public events, and through his books.

La fisica quantistica è probabilmente la più profonda rivoluzione della scienza e del pensiero moderni. Nata da uno straordinario sforzo collettivo, ha messo in crisi alcune delle certezze su cui per secoli si è fondata la cultura occidentale, trasformando il nostro modo di concepire materia, osservazione e realtà. Attraverso cinque idee fondamentali (_discontinuità, identità, futuro, indeterminazione, relazione_) il volume accompagna lettrici e lettori nel cuore della rivoluzione dei quanti, mostrando come una teoria apparentemente astratta sia in realtà profondamente legata alla nostra esperienza quotidiana e alle tecnologie che abitano il presente: dai laser alla medicina, dalle celle solari all’informatica. Un invito a lasciarsi sorprendere dalla meravigliosa complessità della natura e da una forma di conoscenza, capace di accogliere la molteplicità del reale.

**Piero Martin** è un fisico sperimentale che insegna all’Università di Padova. Accompagna la ricerca con la divulgazione, raccontando la scienza alla radio, in televisione, in numerosi eventi pubblici e scrivendo libri.

The *provincia*—the provincial landscape—has always presented itself as a contradictory subject, at once loved and hated; today, it poses a true enigma, as we are no longer even certain of its existence. Having already been explored and depicted in the literature of great post-war masters and the postmodernist writers of the 1990s, this setting is once again revealing its multifaceted nature in the Veneto region through the works of authors born between the late 1970s and early 1990s—appearing in novels, on film screens, and in reportage, memoirs, and graphic novels. In this collective discussion, some of the most representative voices in contemporary Venetian fiction will use their own work to explore what the *provincia* actually is and what literary possibilities it holds.

Giulia Scomazzon made her debut in 2023 with the memoir *La paura ferisce più di un coltello arrugginito* (nottetempo; Bagutta Prize). Her latest novel is *8,6 gradi di separazione* (nottetempo, 2026).

Sandro Frizziero was a finalist for the Campiello Prize with *Sommersione* (Fazi, 2020). In 2023, he published *Il bene che ti voglio* (Mondadori); *La via delle stelle* (nottetempo, 2026) is his fourth novel.

Nicole Trevisan won the 2023 Zeno Prize for her short story *La ragazza*. An editor and writer with the *Spaghetti Writers* collective, she made her debut in 2026 with the novel *Malefica* (Fandango).

Ginevra Lamberti has also published *Tutti dormono nella valle* (2022) and *Perché comincio dalla fine* (2019) with Marsilio. Her latest novel is *Il pozzo vale più del tempo* (Marsilio, 2024). The meeting will be held on **Friday, September 4 at 6:30 PM** at the Teatro dei Filodrammatici in Este.

La provincia che si è sempre presentata come oggetto contraddittorio, al tempo stesso amato e odiato, oggi si configura come vero enigma perché non siamo nemmeno più sicuri della sua esistenza. Già oggetto di indagine e rappresentazione nella letteratura dei grandi maestri del dopo guerra e degli allievi del post modernismo degli anni Novanta, in Veneto è tornata a mostrare la sua natura sfaccettata nelle opere di autrici e autori nati tra la fine degli anni Settanta e l’inizio dei Novanta tra le pagine dei romanzi, sugli schermi cinematografici, nei reportage, nei memoir, nei fumetti. In un incontro corale, alcune delle voci più rappresentative della narrativa veneta contemporanea si chiederanno, attraverso la lente dei propri lavori, che cos’è dunque la provincia e quali le sue possibilità letterarie.

Mara Filippi Morrione, spokesperson for the Roberto Morrione Award for Investigative Journalism, and Marianna Donadio will participate in the presentation.

Despite condemnations by the United Nations, the Israeli national water company Mekorot has established itself as a global leader in the sector. In recent years, several companies have terminated their agreements with Mekorot, following reports from numerous NGOs denouncing the exploitation of water resources in the occupied Palestinian territories. In contrast, Acea—a public water utility 51% controlled by the City of Rome—is the only company that has not withdrawn from the agreement signed with Mekorot in 2013. Requests for access to the relevant documents have proven futile; the text remains inaccessible to this day.

Nonostante le denunce delle Nazioni Unite, l’azienda idrica nazionale israeliana Mekorot si è affermata come leader mondiale nel settore. Negli ultimi anni diverse imprese hanno interrotto i propri accordi con Mekorot, sulla base dei report di numerose Ong che hanno denunciato lo sfruttamento delle risorse idriche nei territori palestinesi occupati. Acea, azienda pubblica di gestione idrica controllata al 51% da Roma Capitale, è invece l’unica a non aver fatto un passo indietro rispetto all’accordo siglato con Mekorot nel 2013. Built by the Venetian Pasqualigo family in the 16th century, Villa Rodella was acquired in the late 19th century by the Rodella family, originally from Asiago.
Comprising the main residence and a large *barchessa* (an arcaded outbuilding), Villa Rodella spans two floors plus a cellar level, covering a total area of ​​nearly 2,000 square meters—including a family chapel. It is set within a vast 1.3-hectare park in the heart of the Euganean Hills Regional Park.
After standing abandoned for ten years, the villa was granted under concession in 2025 by the State Property Agency (the current owner) to Fondazione Essenziale ETS. The gradual reopening of the premises began in May 2026, with the garden opened to the public on Sundays, and will continue throughout 2027.

**ACCESSIBILITY**
The 2026 event will take place in the villa's outdoor spaces, with gravel paths and lawn areas.
